We will discuss about PVP and group PVP. I will give you some basic points, most are kind of must if you wanna PVP efficiently.
*
First of all, I assume you have good knowledge about the game. You have checked other guides or tutorials or you already know about them.
*
Communication is must. Most of the time chat is not enough for good group PVP. If you have no option to TS, you have to use chat very efficientlly.
*
Manuel Sails / Depower skills are must. Very good tacking on the specific ship is must (tack without going negative speed if you can). You have to reverse your ship with high speed if needed, you have to change your reverse direction and get out of the reverse in direction you want to. To stop your ship and reverse, we want only manuel sailing using q/e and z/c and depower . Battle sails can be used if circumstances dictate (protect sails against chain shots etc.)
*
If you are good at manuel sails, calculate enemy broadside reload times, you can quickly turn and angle your ship, so enemy will bounce or miss his shots.
*
Master the gunnery. Always check your convergence and fire sequence before firing. If you need forward and locked focus for that broadside, do not waste that broadside with backward and etc. cause you forgat to check, before firing. Use F5 to turn off un-needed guns, and so crew transfers to needed side to increase your reload speed ( if gunnery crew numbers are lacking). Know how to penetrate when to penetrate and when to fire to penetrate. Penetration is must on your broadside, bouncing shots is bad skill. Use those PENETRATION MODS.
*
Learn Demasting, a must skill for PVP. Practice needed for convergence on distance, use PENETRATION MODS, do not forget about "charged shot" which has more penetration. From what distance can you demast ? To demast you need to penetrate the mast, if you hit the mast but you can not penetrate, you won't demast. Mast has 3 section, upper/middle/lower which are from weakest to strongest. You can demast upper parts with less shots. Mast is thin and has less hp on the top, gets thicker and more hp on bottom.
*
Use your limited chain shots carefully. Chain shots start to be effective at 250 meters and even less. You shoot chain to far away targets, you are wasting your limited chain shots. Closer you are, more damage you will do. Carros can be very effective at close range. If you are pursuing the enemy, he is out of chain effective range, tag him with balls.
*
Pvp and specially group pvp (including RVR) keeping the wind is important. Whoever keeps the wind dictates how he wants to battle. If enemy is close range and keeping the wind, he can leak you !
*
Focus fire on group pvp / focus fire on weak enemy / focus fire on enemies weak side. This is a MUST SKILL. Protect your weak side / protect your weak friends / fall back and hide your weak side until repair. I SAY AGAIN DO NOT FORCE, FALL BACK AND REPAIR OR RUN AWAY IF NEEDED !
*
PVP builds from stronger and slower to weaker and faster:
teak/wo > teak/sabicu > teak/teak/ sab/sab > teak/mah > mah/sab > mah/mah
Mahogany and Sabicu are good and affordable woods. Mah/Sab or Mah/Mah good for frigate combat. If you can afford teak and wo, you can go teak/wo or teak/teak.
*
Learn Stern Raking and Camping, learn how to not overshoot your turns, requires superb manuel sailing skill. Stern rake bigger and less agile ships, but if you have opportunity you can also stern rake smaller ships with your bigger ship.
*
Learn COUNTER-STERN CAMPING. When you are in big ship if enemy good at stern camping, try going upwind and look for opportunity to put a deadly broadside to enemy if he overshoots. Use reverse when needed, go %100 boarding prep and board him if he makes mistakes.
*
Learn the rock/paper/scissors boarding game. If you are not good at it, do not get boarded and use "boarding axes" and/or "barricades" skill books. But you have to learn this boarding mini game. If you feel boarding will happen, press 9 and fill your boarding preperation, if needed turn off gunnery with pressing 7 and transfer crew to boarding. If you master boarding it will give you easy kills.
Group PVP : group boarding can give you much easier kills. If you have the numbers just chain board. I guy boards and denies enemy, locks enemy, your friend fills boarding preparation to %100 and kills enemy crew by close stern rake or shooting and damaging enemy side armour. If enemy disengages, your friends boards him immediatly as he can not run away, your friend stays close, so he can board him any time. If your friend has problem or can not finish, you again board him. It is an easy kill.
*
Fighting in the greenzone (reinforcement zone) means POSITIONAL JOIN thus easier win. So your fast ship tags the enemy, you stay out of tag circle, as battle starts, observe where enemy was. Go near the enemy, next to him or in front of him, account the wind. You may consider joining half ship ahead to compensate for lag. So friends join around the enemy, very close range, some chain him for rigging shock, and some devastate his hull, he will be dead in no time.
*
Fighting in greenzone, tell where to join in the circle in chat etc. But give the position like, join SE and next to coast, join XYZ port side, etc.
*
Always use FELIX MAP, ship compare tool to compare your ships to enemy ships, keep it in backround.
*
THAT IS IT FOR NOW. GOOD LUCK CAPTAIN!
